Personalize with first name & merge fields¶
Add your recipients' names to the email or to the subject line.
In the email¶
- Edit a text block and click the right-most toolbar button to show the advanced toolbar.
- Click Insert and choose First Name or Full Name.
A code like this is added:
%{first_name | fallback:"REPLACE THIS"}%
When the email is sent, it's replaced with each recipient's name. You can also type the code yourself.
In the subject line¶
Type the code straight into the subject line:
- First name:
%{first_name}% - Full name:
%{full_name}%
Fallback text¶
Change REPLACE THIS to the text you want when a recipient has no name on your list:
Hi %{first_name | fallback:"there"}%!
This shows "Hi John!" to John and "Hi there!" to anyone without a name. The fallback is optional. Without one, the name is left blank. Fallbacks work in subject lines too.
Tip
Preview shows a sample name ("John Doe"). Send yourself a test to see the real result.
